1996 force 120 stuck in reverse

My 1996 force 120 stuck in reverse the other day, i managed to get it out by turning the prop and someone else moving the shifter. It is now stuck again and wont come out of reverse.At first the shifter wouldnt move, got that moving but it is hard to move.Can see shift linkage moving at motor. Motor will start with shifter in N posistion however motor still runs in reverse.(motor sounds normal though)

You will need to isolate the shifter control and cable, from the motor to diagnose. First check where the cable connects to the motor to see if it is tight and secure.<br />Disconnect cable at the motor.<br />If shifter and cable work properly, move on to the shift rod linkage on the motor, that connects the cable at the top of the motor to the lower unit. Examine carefully for a loose or missing nut or connector. Shift it by moving the shift rod with your hand.
