1996 Evinrude 9.9 4 stroke

i have a 9.9 evinrude 4 stroke i pulled the dip stick today to check oil levels and smelled more gas on the dip stick than oil is this normal and does the gas and oil mix some how if not what are some of the causes to this happening my oil chamber where the dip stick is is totally full.

No, that is part of the theory of the four stroke the gas and oil don't mix. I'm not qualified to attempt to answer your question except to say there should not be gas in the oil. Someone will help you I'm sure. Rick.

Do a forum search for "making oil"
Could be a number of causes. leaky rings, rupture in fuel pump diaphragm come to mind. So does slow trolling for all day with no high speed running.
