1996 Evinrude 88--no fire

Fresh fuel, clean carbs, full charge in battery, new Champion plugs--no fire.
What is my next logical step? I am thinking power pack and coils.
Engine last ran (fine) in fall 2010. I used fogging oil to winterize before storing inside for winter. Spent the summer refurbing the boat. Help?!

Does the engine crank, but not fire? It's unlikely that all 4 coils went at once. There are 3 other components in that ignition system: the timer base, stator and the power pack. All expensive items. The factory service manual lists electrical tests which can be done to qualify/condemn the stator and timer base. The power pack is probably the most likely problem, but make sure the stator and timer base are properly qualified before purchasing the pack. If you don't have the proper test equipment or are unsure of testing procedures, take it to a Bombardier dealer.

The engine cranks like a champ. Just no fire at all. I am also thinking I need to rule out a problem with the emergency cutoff switch in the remote box. I had the remote apart when routing the throttle and shifter cables under the deck. If that is not the problem, I'll start with the stator. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.

One other simple test. Disconnect the control box at the red plug under the cowling. Jump start the starter with jumper cables and a fresh battery. If you have spark, then the problem is in the harness/control box. Keep in mind, if the engine starts, you won't be able to shut if off with the harness disconnected. If you still have no spark, you know the problem is in the engine-mounted igntion system.

Another quick way is to disconnect the black/yellow wire from the power pack and crank it over. If you have spark then, you have wiring harness probs. Still no spark, ignition system probs.
