I have a 1996 Evinrude 60hp EFI on a 16’ Sunbird, binnacle mount shifter. It has not been started in a few years. After a few unsuccessful attempts to start it, I turned off the ignition key and the starter kept running. I had to disconnect the battery to shut it off.

I read in a similar post here to try to identify where the short is (ignition, harness or solenoid) by “disconnecting the start terminal from the ignition switch”. I pulled off the ignition switch and noticed that it had 5-6 wires coming off the back of it. How do I identify which of these is the ‘start terminal’? Or would disconnecting all of them accomplish the same thing? Thanks for any assistance.

You can finf it with a votlmeter. But I'll bet a dollar againt a donut, the solenoid is stuck closed. They handle a heavy current, and can literally WELD themselves closed.
First, disconnect the small wire from the solenoid, and see if short goes away. You will also hear a "click" if the problem is in the switch or cabling. If you hear none,
disconnect the large wires from the solenoid . Check across the big terminals for conitnuity. if it has continuity, replace the solenoid.
