1996 Evinrude 25 HP Lower unit drop

Just bought this 1996 25 Hp Evinrude and need to replace the water pump, I can see one bolt behind the water intake that wont come off, I have taken all of the bolts off still wont drop. any help Thanks Model # E25REDA

The two water intake screens need to be removed and you need to disengage the shift rod first using to open end wrenches. You might have to remove a plastic keeper to remove the upper nut from the shift shaft. Then remove the 5 bolts that hold the lower unit to the mid-section. The lower unit should then drop down.

Your model number indicates it is a two cylinder motor.

Loosen the four side bolts, and nut on the stud on the front of the lower unit. Remove the water intake screens. Disconnect the top portion of the shift rod behind the water intake screens. Lift the upper portion of the nut up the shift rod to expose the plastic keeper that was under the nut. The keeper has a vertical slit in it that you can spread with your finger nail or small screwdriver. Remove the keeper. Shift motor into forward gear. The upper nut on the shift connection is now removable. Remove the four bolts, and the nut in the front. Lower the unit carefully. Good Luck.

Hey guys! Sorry to bust in on the thread but would all this info be the same for a model 1448 EO 96' 25 hp Evinrude? If so, you helped me too!! I have the same problem as Storm1964!!!

Yeah, sorry... I dont know where I got that model number lol. Our model number is E25REDA... same as this guy. Thanks for the help though, it is greatly appreciated!! I will probably be back on here once I start the project. Boats are not my specialty, diesel engines are lol, and this motor is a whole lot smaller!! Much respect to marine mechanics!!!!!!
