Hey Gang,

I have been chasing this problem for a while.....I have a overheating problem with this engine. While in idle or low running RPM (2500) it is fine. When I get her up to about 5,000 RPM's it sets off the alarm and auto shuts down. It won't let me go back up after it cools off it shakes really bad. Then I turn off engine and re-start a few time & it takes off fine.... Then again after about 2-4 minutues it does it again. What do I do and do i just replace stats.....Water gauge shows a plus 30 lbs at 5,000 RPM's....... I have heard it is a good engine it has only run really good for a few months.

-Put in a New Water Pump & Stats within the last 18 months.
-New plugs, New Power Pack, and New Fuel pump....

She's got a lot of power too when running good.

Thanks for the help in advance,

Tex

Check the tstats. I would replace them as the cost is minimal when you do the work yourself. Can you hold your fingers on the head for a good long three or four count? If you can't you definitely have an overheating problem that will eventually (I hope not yet) destroy your engine.

Sometimes I can hold the palm of my hand on there for more than 10 sec. and then there are time I can't.....

Also I spoke to a mechanic and he stated about Brown Tide on the sensors making them dirty anyone ever hear about that?

Tex

There hasn't been any brown tide down there for a couple of years. Besides, your sensors never come in contact with the cooling water. They sense the temperature of the heads.
I'm not sure of the configuration of your T-stats but I'd check for relief valves not opening properly at higher RPMs. Some of those motors had the entire T-stat assembly as the releif valve.
