the prop issue has nothing to do with the over heating....probably just a linkage adjustment where the cable attach to the motor.
as for the hot head.. i fought a hot head for a few years....always watching it......with a temp gauge and a water pressure gauge. finally solved most of that descrepency when i rebuilt the carbs....sooo i would say that i had a lean condition in the carb or carbs that fed that head.
that doesnt mean you might not have some blockage, or you have extra friction in that side of the motor somewhere in the rotating mass...but id bet on a lean crab or carbs
try rebuilding the carbs after you exhaust all your other options
