1996/97 Mercury 225 Saltwater outboard

I'm interested in a 1997 Proline sport fishing boat that comes with a Mercury 225 outboard. Any opinions out there on this engine? I've heard that Mercury makes a great fresh water engine, but the saltwater engines are not recommended.<br /><br />Any feedback will be appreciated!!

Thier saltwater engines are all but bullet proof, but the fresh water versions will not hold up werth a hoot in salt,unless you are maticulous and timely with flushing it after use.<br />I have not had any hands-on with the 225HP of any year tho.

Yamaha makes a saltwater version 225 their huge I just bought a 115 Yamaha you can flush itmwithout the motor on I think all the new Yamahas are that way
