I have a 1996 Johnson 9.9 hp outboard model J10ELERB, serial # G 03654438. I have absolutely no information on what I have here. No owners manual, nothing.
I would like to know where I can get a manual for this motor. I would also like to know just what I have. 2 stroke or 4, shaft = long, x-long ?? I also have a set of controls but have no idea on how to hook them up. If this motor is an x-long shaft, can it be made into a long shaft. I want to use it on my sailboat as a kicker. It's in excellent shape, clean as a whistle. I just need all the info I can get on this motor. Please feel free to email me at, CWigleyjr@Earthlink.net with any info. Thank You

Hi, Chet.

You need manuals; Owners and Repair.

A Johnson Dealer can get you both, or you can get the Owner's Manual from him and a Repair Manual here:

http://www.outboardrepairs.com/manuals/

Good luck. :)

According to the model number, your "1996" motor is actually a 1994 2-stroke long shaft. You will need a kit to install controls and look up the sailboat version of that motor in the parts book for the correct prop.

Use the model number when you order the manuals.

Thanks to JB, Seahorse, and SoLittle for the info.
Now, who can tell me where the battery cables hook up to the starter solinoid and the neg to the block. I have the full set of controls, ignition switch etc. but not sure where the batter cables hook up. Everything else seems pretty cut and dryed.
Thanks Shipmates,
Chet
