I have a 1996 evinrude 48 special that has a short somewhere. The engine will not shut off with the key. I know the wiring from the switch back is correct because the engine I took off worked fine. The problem, I believe, is somewhere around the buss bar. If I touch the rectifier while the engine is running, I get shocked. If I ground the bracket that the bar is mounted to, the engine shuts off. On my johnson 50, there was a grounding wire that ran from on of the mounting bolts to the coil pack bolt. If I wire the 48 the same way, the engine grounds out. If I run the engine out opf gas, and then touch the bracket, I get shocked. Does anyone have any ideas or diagrams that will help me? Maybe teh buss bar wiring is not correct.
