I have recently purchased a 1996 Javelin TE boat with the Erude Vindicator 225hp. Engines runs perfect and strong,, boat has kinda been neglected it seems so I changed all fuel lines & bulb, fuel/water seperater filter and drained old gas from tank. Now here comes the question: I took boat out and it starts and runs perfect, idles smoothly and is quick to start. However I fished and trolled around for about an hour and when I went to start back up it started quick and idled perfect and as I was getting in position to blast off as I gave it gas to accelerate It kinda bogged down? and went dead, it starts right back up and idles perfect and then it did it again! as I was giving it gas I kinda pumped the choke key and it takes off perfect and runs smoothly? any ideas?,,, before I change the plugs (they look awful) and do anything else I would like to get some ideas, I have never owned a Evinrude, buy heard this was a good engine

,, Thanks for replying, I read a bunch of your post and im not sure I have come up with any kind of answer lol, Im sure I missed something, is it the "idle cough" you guys were talking about? or something else, it never coughs or anything just bogs down and choking it fixes it on the fly but I know something isnt working properly,,??

Yeah, sorry, but there is one particular post that talks about that bog on acceleration. Basically, I have found on my engine, the same problem. It was absolutely dirty idle and midrange fuel passages in the carbs and throttle bodies. It was in fact salt crystals, I think.

One post suggested getting some spray carb cleaner with a straw, and shooting that carb cleaner into the idle air bleed jets that are on the front face of each carb, with the engine running. Since yours doesn't sound nearly as bad as mine was, that spray MIGHT just clean out the clogged holes and you MIGHT just get away with it.
If that doesn't fix it, then you will have to do a complete carb cleaning, including throttle bodies, and a proper link and sync after reassembly. That's a big job. One day, maybe one half day, to do it absolutely right. There are alot of key areas to pay close attention to. All of the details are in past posts....I am too busy to go looking for them today...sorry.

I would try the spray first as it is cheap and easy to try. Be sure to get those plugs replaced too first. That may be it too.
