I think I have a a spark problem as follows: if engine is cool (sitting overnight) it starts immediately using fast idle control and choke after pumping fuel bulb to firmness. Without cover on it will idle for more then 30 minutes without a problem. If after starting and allowing to to warm up I can put it in gear (tied to dock) and it will run for an extended period without problem. If I advance the throtlle just al ittle it will run for a few minutes and suddenly die and will not restart. At this point it does not appear to be producing a spark (screwdriver in cap next to cylinder head no spark visible and then my neighbor held screw driver in hand and while hlding other hand on engine and no shock). Engine is pumping plenty of water as evidenced by stream from pee hole and by fact that after doing all of above I can hold my hand on the cylinder head. Woith cover on motor the same sequence occurs but more rapidly. Something getting warm and opening?
any advice\help welcome and TIA.

Re: 1995 Yamaha 115 2 Stroke Spark Problem

I had the same sort of issue with a '96 C115. After running a while the engine would die and may or may not restart. After sitting for a while it would start after cooling off. It eventually acted up in the driveway. None of the cylinders had spark when it was acting up. I researched it a little and eventually bought a new CDI unit. That did the trick. Was not cheap; but, in my case, I was out of options. Been running fine ever since. It appears the CDI electronics were failing after heating up.

how much did u pay and were did u get the cdi. overheating caused the problem?.I fish alot in the kelp beds in san diego and sometimes a piece of kelp covers the intake for the water. senor goes off making a loud beeping sound. i turn off the motor and let it cool down. may be the heat caused my ignition problem with the cdi
