My fuel gauge is quirky on my Skeeter. I noticed today after I filled her up that the gauge read full for about an hour or so. Then, when I pulled out of the water and looked at the tank it was 3/4 of the way full, but my gauge was reading 1/2 a tank. I was thinking I was using way too much fuel, but it is my gauge that is messed up. What could this be?

Re: 1995 Skeeter 200SL Fuel Gauge Error

There is probably nothing wrong with the gauge or the sender. Many boats have very long, very shallow, and fairly wide tanks. Therefore the attitude of the boat causes the flakey readings. For that very reason I installed a fuel flow monitor which gives me 15 second updates on fuel used, fuel remaining, and fuel used for the trip. You tell the monitor how much fuel you have when you fill up (fuel tank size) and it calculates how much fuel the engine is using and subtracts that from the total and displays the current amount remaining. Very accurate. These monitors use a transucer installed in the fuel line.
