LOL! When I turn the key the engine attempt to turn over, I will check the switch. i suppose I was looking way to far into what you were saying.

Yes, the switch wire is hot at all times.

The switch has 3 positions, off, run, start. Turn it to run and see if you have power on the purple wires on the switch and the purple wire that goes to the coil (Disconnected from coil of course).

Yes, the switch wire is hot at all times.

Only the red/purple striped wire should be hot all the time.

Don, I have power on the purple switch wires when the key is in the run position. I have the same voltage at the purple wire coming from the harness that goes to the coil ( i disconnected it from the coil prior to testing.)

There is power going to the ignition coil, and it appears that power is coming out of the coil as well, what now?

And what is that voltage?

And what is that voltage?

It is the same/slightly lower by .xx than the reading from the battery. (Right now I am charging the battery to ensure proper cranking volts)

It was 11.xxx, then 10.xx volts. I have 2 marine starting batteries one of which is brand new. It was only lower because I took the new battery out and tried a different one thinking it was fully charged. But it had been in the garage for a while and apparently wasnt charged.

Sorry it took so long to reply, I could have sworn that I submitted this yesterday afternoon, I never clicked submit though. I was just waiting for your reply and come to find out you were waiting for mine! :)

Ok, I guess I am at a stand still? Is there more testing to do? I really wanted to have this thing out on the water this weekend. I just got it back from not having it for 2 months, now this. I am really down on my luck.

Until you get the batteries charged up, it's not going to start. Get them load tested as well.
Then make sure all the battery cables are in good shape, clean and tight on the battery (with a wrench, not wingnuts and your fingers).

All has been done. We are good to go. All hooked up, charged, and tested good.

Did you hook the coil wires back up?

When I removed the plug wire from the ignition coil and tried to start it, there was no spark coming from the ignition coil. Does this mean I have a bad coil? Or is there more testing I can do? I am lost.

I do not understand these tests, I am so overwhelmed with this I am ready to just give up.

Well, despite my previous message, I didn't give up, instead I took a break and cleared my mind. After going back at it I decided to swap ignition coils. I now had a mad blaster cool installed and a strong spark to all cylinders. Engine fired right up. Thanks to all that helped.

Is the mad blaster ignition cool ok in my boat?
