I have a 1995 Mercury 175hp 2 stroke Black Max. I’m looking for the crankshaft woodruff key part number. Does anyone know?

While I was on the water the motor stopped running. When I tried to restart it the flywheel would spin but the motor would not turn over. Got the boat home, checked the flywheel and the locking nut was loose. Tighten the nut and the motor turned over.

Fast forward. I removed the flywheel and the woodruff key is missing, may have sheared off. Also 2 teeth on the crankshaft are broken

Hopefully I can install a new woodruff key, tighten the flywheel to spec (95ftlbs) and run the motor.

I can’t upload the photo but the is definitely a space for a key on the crankshaft. Unless the flywheel has a built in key and it snapped off?

no key at all.. tha flywheel will only go on one way.. it fills tha gap ya referin' to........... it can't "snap" off... flywheel splines match tha crank.

if either crank and/or flywheel splines are screwed then ya may need ta replace at least one or tha other or both............. on a bad part is i've never heard of either one being able ta be fixed... tha hub on tha flywheel can be replaced but would be more cost effective ta jus replace tha whole thing (ebay).. don't think tha crank can be fixed either.. it will need ta be replaced also..........

My curiosity is why do you have flywheel off?
Flywheel was spinning without turning the motor. Once I tightened the flywheel nut, the motor turned over but wouldn’t start, it did however backfire. When I looked that up I found that the flywheel likely jumped a tooth. Took the flywheel off and that’s exactly what happened.

Thank you! I lined the flywheel up on the crank, tightened it to 95ftlbs and it started right up! The teeth are a little worn on the flywheel so I will be looking for a replacement. I appreciate everyone responding.
