Hello all,

New to the forum and recreational boating. I just purchased a 1995 Harris 240 Classic with a 135 Mercruiser 3.0 Alpha 1.

I took it out yesterday for the first time with 4 other adults onboard and at full throttle is was doing 26MPH at 4900 RPM.

I would not have thought that I would have gotten that high of RPM in the high Tennessee heat and humidity with that many on board.

Is it possible that I have the wrong prop? Sorry but I do not know what size is on it.

Sure it's possible you have the wrong prop. People put on wrong props all the time. Usually because they got a great deal on it. OR they may have carried heavier loads than you do, and the prop on there worked best for them. Maybe they pulled tubers or skiers and needed to get on plane quicker.
What it amounts to is you need to find the prop that keeps the engine in it WOT range for general boating.
Merc props have part numbers on the hub, right by the nut the holds it on the shaft.
Best thing to do is get that part number,. then post your number and how you would like to operated your boat, and what you have now with the WOT rpm. But, post over on the Prop forum. Here is a link to it.

Thank you both for the reply. I will find out what I have and take it to the prop forum.

The only markings I can find on the prop are the letter "S"

Thanks again.

Start a new thread with your question doorman, most people only read the first post and answer it, not 5 posts down.
