hi I have a 1995 johnson 60 hp outboard and at half throttle it starts to lose power and starts to shake. I have done the basic troubleshooting such as gas treatment, new plugs, gas filter. Engine seems to start fine and run fine until half throttle. Any help would be appreciated.

Re: 1995 johnson 60hp engine problem

Fuel tank vent open? Does the primer bulb collapse fully or even partially when this is happening. If so, that indicates a clogged fuel line prior to the bulb or an issue with the tank vent system or pickup tube in the tank. Fuel pump ever been rebuilt? Run the engine (in the water) until it starts to shake. Now have someone quickly squeeze the primer bulb which helps a failing fuel pump. If the engine picks up then you need a fuel pump rebuild. DO NOT run the engine the way it is because it is running lean at higher rpm and you can turn it into an anchor quickly. It that trick doesn't help then there are other issues such as partially clogged high speed jets/carb passages. Ignition issues, etc.

Overheat and going into SLOW mode. You need to make sure it is NOT running hot.
