Re: 1995 Johnson 200HP carb adjustment

Grady204,

Set your idle screws between 5 to 6 turns as a starting point. The '95 factory service manual is incorrect at 2.5 turns.

The 1996 service manual says 5 turns and the '96 uses the exact same carb as your '95.

Idle timing should range between 2 ATDC to 6 ATDC. Notice that is is AFTER top dead center, not before.

Make sure the thermostats are allowing the motor to warm up to about 140° and that the "blow off" valve is replaced with a 1997 or later grooved one, or that a 1/16" hole is drilled in the middle of it to bleed the air out of the block.

Re: 1995 Johnson 200HP carb adjustment

Seahorse,
Thanks for giving me that valuable information. 5 turns seems wright, especially because she would not even start at 2 1/2 turns. I took her to the launch, started a 2 1/2 she would not start. Kept bumping her up to eventually 5 turns of the needle, and she would at least get to an idle.
Still had the trouble of here stalling, once I bumped her into gear. Tweaked the carbs couple of more turns out, but stil could not get her to accelrate very well. I agree, with OBJ, that it probably needs to have the link set. Funny as I look at the carbs, they all appear to be opening at the same instant, but hard to say, as I do not have any experience with "link/sync."
I will check the T-stats tomorrow. Besides the noticable change of RPM's at startup, any other way to be sure that the engine is warming to 140 degrees?
Thanks again for the advice ,and especially the carb/timing setting....I'll report back as soon as I get her up and running. BTW...should have my OMC manual within the next few days, so I may wait until I get the manual....GRADY
