Hi, had hoped to finish install of this new to me motor over weekend, but couldnt install steering rod, as it hangs up about 2 inches in. I pulled motor onto engine hoist to install. After cleaning tube, regreasing both tube and rod, still no luck. I noticed that the tip of rod where bolt hole is, is bent slightly (boat is new to me). I presume isnt supposed to be?

Thanks alot.

Also, could someone point out where the negative cable should mount (on powerhead)? Thanks

yes steering rod should be straight.
Perhaps you can get it through the tube if you fully extend the rod from the cable.

If I remember right, there is a bolt into the block, just below and slightly behind the starter.

Look for a bolt that is probably only finger tight.

It has to be straight.
Someone might have hit the end of the rod, mushrooming the end?
If it can't be straightened? Then replace.
It will do nothing but cause trouble forever.

On the cable is an engraving. It has the size, sometimes in feet, sometimes in inches.
