My voltmeter gradually climbs to 18 volts while running yet the actual voltage as measured by a high quality voltmeter is 15.2 volts. Is this strictly a meter problem or is the 15.2 volts too high? Is there a voltage regulator on this motor? Shouldn't the actual voltage be more like 14 volts? Could this be a battery problem? Thanks for in advance for the help!

My 95 175hp is regulated to 14.8 volts. Has your Tach been acting funny?

If your 115 is like mine(1997 115) its rectifier only and that is what mine reads on a quality volt meter with a brand new rectifer .the boat volt meter shows 16.volts when running most off the time and its recommended that the battery have removable caps with this system,so you can add water to it.If you have a regulated system its to high.
