I'm currently working on repairing, restoring 1995 bayliner capri 1800 o/b. unfortunately I can't remove the top for this but cut the top of the splash well to get at the top of the transom. As of now the deck, transom and foam are all removed and I'm grinding and prepping the hull. Here's where I need some help the transom measured 2" of wood 2 - 3/4 and 1 -1/2 laminated and glassed in. If I laminate it the same using poly resin and csm between the ply and then csm outside and 2 layers 1708 the transom will be to thick to install between splashwell and hull. Is it ok if I use 2 - 1/2 and 1 - 3/4 ply for the transom to allow for csm layers or better to stay with the original 2 - 3/4 and 1 - 1/2 ply and laminate with pl or similar to allow for csm and 1708 outside?
