J200STLEOA is model number, How can I find out if it's a looper or not. Tried all the model number codes, but that leads to special style. I recently threw a rod (Silver Dollar Size Hole) and having a new short block brought to me. I just want to make sure I purchased the correct one. Any Info would be greatly appreciated.

Cross flow motors have transfer covers on the outside of the cylinders. Loopers do not. J/E made 90* crossflows and 90* loopers, as well as 60* loopers. Is your motor 90* or 60*?

All 200's after 1986 are loopers. Yes, a 1995 200 Venom is a big bore, 90*, open deck looper.

Re: 1995 200HP Johnson Venom

Hey thanks alot guys, my mechanic/friend recently left the Tx area for Miss about 6months ago, luckily after I called him he found me a short block. He's heading back for Republic of Texas Biker Rally and to switch out the motors. I just wanted to make sure I didn't give him bum info after a long ride. So since the block is the same for the 200 through 250 what makes them different? I noticed that when researching for new/rebuilt blocks.

Probably the same things that make any engine gain power, aspiration,

bigger carbs, reeds, intake manifold, heads and exhaust.
and maybe modified power pack.

In other words...not a clue.:D
