I paid about that 2 years ago for my 1994 1900DC with a 1993 Suzuki DT150. In my opinion, you're a lot better off than I am, with the Evinrude. When my engine eventually dies, I'll have to rerig the boat with new controls. Since you'll be rigged with the 'rude controls, you'll be able to easily slap one of the gazillion used johnnyrudes on there if need be.
I think it's a good deal. You might be able to work it down a few hundred, given the economy right now. I might start my offer at $3500.
