1994 Johnson Fast Strike 150

I have a 1994 Johnson Fast Strike 150,oil pump quit and scored 1 piston. I have found a 1997 Johnson 175 powerhead, will this powerhead interchange with the 1994 Johnson? Would like to have the 175 powerhead if it will hook up to my lower unit.

Welcome!!<br /><br />If the oil pump quit I doubt it can pick on only one cylinder. If the other 5 are perfect and 1 is damaged, you might want to look further so as not to hurt another piston after its running again.<br /><br />Yes, the later 60 degree powerhead will interchange. It'll be interesting to see if you notice any difference. You may not so dont be surprised.<br /><br />If its a dressed powerhead the wiring is different so you will have to have some adaptors. No big deal.

KenR, sorry to hear about the trouble with your Fast Strike. I also have a 1994 Johnson Fast Strike and was wondering if your warning horn went off when the pump quit working? I am also interested if you notice a difference in the 175 powerhead, because a guy at a recent walleye tournament told me that the Fast Strike actually puts out about 170 horses. I don't know if he knew what he was talking about or not. Good luck on getting your Fast Strike up and running.

I don't know if the vro pump went out only was told that the problem was the vro. NO warnings went of. A friend who I had let drive told me he was getting more rpm's than I had been able to get,I told him he should not be and then heard a tick and shut down immediately. Waited about 10 minutes and restarted motor. Motor had slight vibration. I took it home, checked compression, had one cylinder with 40 and one 90 on same bank,pulled head and the cylinder with 40 was scored up bad. Really don't know what happened but have to replace powerhead. All mechanics around my area say they can replace the entire motor for what it would cost to rebuild. Like I said I have found the 175 powerhead,think I will replace the 150 with it since it will fit. Don't need any more speed the 150 is fast enough for me.

Ken, it sounds to me like your engine leaned out on fuel. That would explain the gain in RPMS too.
