Hello, i am getting my boat ready for the water, i have it on a trailer at the moment. I noticed last yr once in a while when put in neutral it seemed that maybe interrupter was hanging, when shift back into gear and then in neutral then ok. Happens once in a while. Now i noticed when shifted on land in reverse was a little hard then was ok. Not sure but seems like maybe switch hanging again. Is there any maintenance as for as grease wise that needs to be done on shifter lever on motor area and anything i can ck to make sure interrupter switch is working correctly?
Any info greatly appreciated.

Thanks

You are running the motor or at least turning the prop when shifting it " on land " ?

And when the motor is STOPPED it should not be shifted unless someone turns the propshaft.

The interrupter switch cuts off spark to 3 cylinders to take load of the clutch dog.----Makes for easier / smoother shifting.------But you might want to investigate further.----There are reports of the O-rings on the shift rod cover ( on the lower unit ) being jammed with corrosion products.----That makes it harder to shift the motor.----Easy fix / inspection can be done on that !

Awww heard of something to that effect yesterday, was told by guy i know in marina that when sit for the winter the shift rod has salt corrosion and cause sort of stif shifting and messages with the interrupter switch. But after some use should free up? I just gently pushed up and down on the button attached to shifter bracket and seemed to be free could feel the spring action. I have to do a water pump kit this weekend can see all in there then. Is there an actual cover to remove on this motor on lower unit? Didn’t notice?
thanks for the info.

Frank, On my '98 Johnny 150, the aluminum cover that the shift rods runs thru swelled and grabbed the shift rod. The fix is to replace the cover. Before the fix, reverse was either difficult or impossible to use.
