Hello attempting to do a water pump in my motor, have a petty good idea what to do, however was wondering what the torque specs are for bolting lower unit back on how many ft lbs/in lbs etc should the bolts be? Also any input on what to do while apart is appreciated. Special little tricks of the trade etc.

Thanks Frank

For my '98 150HP Ocean runner gearcase retaining bolts, they are:

3/8 bolts 26-28 Ft/Lb

7/16 bolts 45-50 Ft/LB

trim Tab screw 35-40 Ft/LB

Hello ad thanks for the info, very helpful. You says trim Tab screw 35-40 ft lbs? Is that the tab set for steering the fin on lower uni housing your referring to? Ok didnt look guess that is a larger bolt?

Thanks again

Gee, if I remember correctly, the bolt in the center of the trim tab is pretty thin, likely too thin for a 35-40 Ft/LB torque.

I would just make them tight and not sweat the exact torque value. Use some permatex #3 sealer on them.

Frank, at our age, I am not usually able to break bolts thicker than 3/8". It is sorta like an age-related torque wrench.

Those 1/4 inch bolts better watch our though...

Lol yes agree so we’re the same age, yes things are a lot harder to do now. I had several problems with this thing this yr and expense adding up. Deciding what to do sell the way it is or fix put in water and for sale sign on it he it until sold. Maintenance and expense becoming to much. I will be genial on those 1/4 bolts. Thanks
