I'm back about my Force. I checked timing and it's OK. New stator. Runs rough when I'm idling around the lake on my pontoon. It's OK at high speed. How do I check the coils? Could it be switch box? How do I check that?
That's enough questions for now.
I checked timing at high speed. It's 34 should be 32, but that shouldn't cause it to run that rough.

Thanks again.

BEFORE CHECKING SWITCH BOX OR COILS I WOULD CHECK THE CARB. SEE IDLE MIXTURE SCREWS ARE SET CORRECTLY ;WHILE ENGINE IS RUNNING CLOSE IDLE MIXTURE SCREWS AND SEE IF ENGINE STALL. IF ENGINE KEEPS RUNNING CARB. WOULD HAVE TO BE LOOK AT .IF ENGINE SHUT DOWN ON EACH CARB;WHEN SCREWS ARE CLOSE OPEN SCREWS UNTIL HIGHEST RPM IT OBTAIN @ THEN 1/4 MORE SO IT WON;T BE TO LEAN. ON THE COIL TEST OHM METER CHECH RESISTANCE TEST AROUND 800 OHMS ON COILS

Re: 1994 Force 40hp

BTW, make sure you change that timing. Even though it is only 2 degree's too much, you can melt down a piston, or cause detonation from firing too much before piston gets to the top. My wrench says to run a degree or two retarded because of fuels today. I don't exactly know why, but he's been around a lot, and I trust him. It won't effect your performance, and may save you some money. Good luck

I too have heard to change the timing, I have actually read that chrysler/force 3 and 4 cylinder models should be set to 28 instead of 32, must have something to do with how fast the fuel burns or something, just a guess though

Re: 1994 Force 40hp

timing varies on those motors, depending on the year and type of ignition system it has.
