Re: 1994 30 horse evinrude shift problems
Hi, the first thing to do is to isolate the problem, control box, cable, linkage, or gearcase. Have a helper look at the shift linkage under the cowl while you shilft it into gear (engine not running, lanyard removed!), helper spinning prop. does the linkage move? I assume this is a remote control, because you said when you move the throttle forward rpms increase but prop doesn't turn. If the linkage doesn't move, disconnect the shift cable at the motor, and pull on the end of the cable, if it pulls out, you need a new shift cable, if you can move it a significant amount, but not pull the inner cable out of the housing I'd suspect a control box problem. If your helper can see the shift linkage move, but it doesn't go into gear, remove the water intake screen on the gearcase, and see if the shift rod moves. If it does, you probably have a gearcase problem, if not, something is broken between the shift linkage on the motor, and gearcase. Hope this helps, Jimmy.
