just purchased this used from some older man,,this is my first boat,im still learning obviously looking for some help,,he has no manual to give me, i've had it out twice and almost got stuck out there both times..it seems to have a issue re starting once im on the water, and stop and fish for awhile..im looking to see if anyone has info about the ignition and pressing it in when starting,im guessing im doing something wrong,,engine is a 40hp 2 stroke 1993 evenrude,he maintained it was tuned up in march, and fires great when intially launching...any tips or is there something im doing wrong? any info would be appreciated, learning on the fly by myself.thanks

I have a 1989 Tracker pro V 16 with a 60 HP Johnson. I haven't had it very long and I bought it from a guy who bought it at an estate sale. It didn't have an owners manual either. It is not my first boat though. I did purchase a Seloc Johnson Evenrude service manual which helped me understand how my motor operates. The button you are talking about works like a choke to enrich the fuel mixture in the intake manifold. If your motor cools down while you are stopped you may have to push this button to get a quicker start. You may also need to squeeze the fuel bulb a few times to help the fuel pump pickup fuel. Just some tricks I have picked up through the years. Lots of luck finding a owners manual. You can try Bass Pro Shops Tracker Boat Store you might luck out they may have one.

Agreed with the above. You really only need to push the key for cold starts. By pushing the key you activate the choke. Once it’s warmed up pushing the key will only flood the motor. Try just starting with out the choke and if it won’t fire then push the key. Enjoy

Lifting your throttle a little can help as well
