This problem started 3 years ago. Started up and ran normally a couple of times then after a startup it was obviously not firing on all 3 cylinders. It seemed more like only one. I installed new plugs, no help. I took it to the marina, they put a plug tester on it and diagnosed it as a bad trigger. They installed a new one and ever since it has started very hard, lacks low-end power, has a hiccup during idle, skips and coughs a lot in the 1100 to 1800 rpm range. If I can get passed all of that, you can hear the other cylinders kicking in and it runs almost as good as ever lacking some speed and a couple of hundred RPM.
I do own the Clymer manual for this and all numbers below are from there. I resistance tested the coils, stator, and trigger. On the stator wires, Low-Speed coil reads 2300 instead of 3600-4200 ohms, high-speed coil was 110 ohms which is within the 90 to 140. My triggers reads 990 which is below the 1100-1400. Resistance tests on all coils prim and sec fell within spec. I then performed DVA tests only while cranking as it did not start for me today. Voltage to the primary windings of the coils was 84 and instead 180-280vdc. I tested the Switchbox stop circuit and instead of 200 -360 I am seeing 116. I unhooked the Black/yellow wire and this dropped to 103. After reading other threads tonight, I need to check that again because that sounds potentially very bad to me if the voltage is coming from that wire. I also did DVA test on low and high-speed charge coils. Low speed puts out 104 rather than 200-300 and high speed was at 34 which does fall within the 20-90. So I am only getting about 140v total during startup. I installed inline spark testers on all 3 cylinders and when cranking it I can see steady spark on 1, somewhat intermittent on 2 (maybe 50% of the time), and the occasional spark on 3 (like seconds or more in between sparks). Magnets under the flywheel are glued in and in perfect condition. My initial diagnosis is a bad low-speed charge coil in the stator and a bad trigger. Does that sound correct? My second question is if f the low voltage can cause the intermittent sparking or if I am probably looking at a damaged switchbox also?

Sound like stator problemThank you. I did some more testing today. Using a gap tester this time and I do have consistent, all be it week spark on all 3 cylinders. They must not have been jumping the plug gaps yesterday. I also retested the Blk/yellow wire. There is no change in switchbox voltage when it is attached or detached. I also checked for voltage on the blk/yellow wire referenced to grond and there is none there so I am also confident the stator is the issue and because I have no idea what the trigger that the Marina installed is, I ordered one of those as well, Both CDI componets. Hopefully will get them here bench tested and then installed by the end of the week. I will check back and let you know.

The parts arrived early enough today to install. Did a couple of DVA tests before trying to start it. Primary to the coils were still a little low I think. All 3 were just over 150Vdc but that's double what they were. The switchbox stop circuit is now 220Vdc which is over double what it was so all good things. I then cranked it up and it took a little cranking but she fired up. I could tell it was still missing but after 3 or 4 minutes It noticeably picked up rpm and I am positive all 3 cylinders are firing at idle now as tuning each carb had an effect on the idle. The throttle is now super responsive also. We'll see how the cold start goes tomorrow or the next day then I think it might be time to head to the lake.
