Hi y'all I'm new here but excited by the amount of info available hopefully y'all can help me out. My gas cap recently broke and I ordered another one but after removing the four screws holding in the old cap I cannot remove it from the boat. What am I missing here ? Thanks

Mpace, welcome to iBoats.
Usually when you're posting a problem, pictures of the problem help everyone to come up with a solution.

The screws hold the cap to the hull, but separately there are hose clamps securing the neck of the gas filler to the fuel hose. You'll probably have to reach up from underneath to access the hose clamps. Keep in mind you'll not only have to loosen them to remove the old fuel fill, but tighten them around the replacement. It may be a two-person job; one to hold the fuel hose in place and the other to insert the new fuel fill.

Good luck!

Theres probably a nut on the backside of the fuel fill to keep it tight against the side off the hull. Feel around and you will find your answer

there is a hose clamp holding the hose on, but it is impossible to reach, i cannot get a wrench back there and can barely fit my arm and hand. i might need to upload some pictures to make this point sufficeintly, but does anybody who has expierence with this boat have any ways to replace it?

You'll never be able to get a wrench on it and there's probably not enough room to turn a wrench anyway. You should be using a screwdriver, possibly with a long shaft. When I replaced mine I could barely reach the clamps.

Replacing fuel hoses and such can be one of the toughest jobs you do. They're definitely placed as afterthought/barely servicable items, and the hoses are very stiff. Replacing the fill and vent hoses on m,y 21' Pro-Line nearly defeated me, but I finally got it all in.

Take a good look around and see if it might be easier to actually pull the entire fuel fill hose out of the boat and replace it. You could then use a shorty hacksaw or just a blade to cut through that clamp, and maybe position things a little better when you replace them. It's all nearly 20 years old anyway.

no haha i dont have a kid thats smaller than me at the moment. and i cant use a screw driver these clamps appear to be a nut instead of a screw, but yeah i guess what would probobly be best would be to take it completely out and reposition it in a better way, man this is gonna be a job haha

There are going to be things repaired that you will need your children to do because you won't be able to reach them. Might as well start teaching them now.:D:D:D:D

Mine was a pain in the butt too, when I put new hoses on. I used a long 1/4 drive extention, with a 5/16 swivel socket, and put two hose clamps on. There was only one position the nuts could be in to get at them, and had to do it blind. Or you could take the hose off at the tank, and cut clearance for the clamp to go through the flange opening on the fill opening. The only thing with that is, you may have to make a larger flange ring for under the fill flange to cover the larger opening.

Sometimes I think they install stuff on the cap before they set it just to break our B@lls :D..... I'm wit bond-o 1/4 drive or a nut driver or a flex drive extension.... I can't see it so a bit hard to say how to get to it.....
