Hi all, I need help understanding how to diagnose no spark on a 1993 OMC (Johnson/Evinrude) 9.9 2 stroke model E10RET.

Engine runs well on muffs through the RPM range, under load in the water it won't go above 1/2 RPM (sat for 10 years ran fine prior). I have cleaned the carb, replaced the spark plugs and still same issue. This afternoon pulled the plugs and am not getting spark on the bottom cylinder. Swapped plugs and wires from the coil and still getting the same results. This is where my troubleshooting needs some help.
Swapped the leads to the coil pack from the ignition module and the spark followed the good lead, thus have eliminated the coil.

Next step determine if there is anything up stream of the ignition to check.
Possibly could be the ignition module or something else? I ordered a new power pack, fingers crossed that’s the issue.

I don't have a service manual and finding info on these older engines is proving hard. I am hoping to have the boat running well for 4th of July weekend, so any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated!

Get your hands on a factory service manual and all the info will become much easier to find.

Haha while I don’t disagree my timeline for getting this running in 3 days doesn’t really support that.

Did the bad lead from the coil follow the other cylinder?

Description is unclear.

Sorry about that.

The ignition module (power pack) has two leads that go to the coil, top and bottom which then go to the top and bottom cylinder spark plugs.

The top cylinder has spark and the bottom does not. When I swapped the leads from the ignition module to the coil (top to bottom and bottom to top) the bottom cylinder had spark and the top did not.

This leads me to believe that the coil is performing correctly and that the issue is in the ignition module, it’s leads going to the coil, or somewhere upstream of the ignition module.

Please let me know if I can clarify any better.

I have a new ignition module arriving today and will swap it tonight or tomorrow and report back.

New ignition module (power pack / cd box) installed along with new spark plug wires. Have spark on both top and bottom coils! The motor runs, and sounds better with noticeably less vibration. Next test will be in the water this weekend as long as the weather on the lower Chesapeake cooperates! I would love to take my son fishing and exploring some of the back creeks around our family house down there.

If I get out on the water to test under load, I'll report back. Thanks all to have helped me get this far.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July!
