Hope someone can help.
I have a 175 evinrude Intruder. I have been dealing with a problem for the last 4 years. The model number is E17GLETR. The motor will run fine all day then the next day the motor will stall as if you shut off the key. It has done this at WO throttle, Idle and half throttle. I replaced the powerpack with no help. After it stalls I can wait 15 to 20 minutes and it will restart with no problems. When this happens there is no fire on all cylinders. When I take to the mechanic it will start and run fine. It seems like there is a sensor heating up and when it cools it goes. VRO is still operational.
I appreciate any help I can get.

Re: 1993 Evinrude 175

I had a problem similar to this. The symptoms where quite the same actually. After a couple of years and a lot of headaches, a buddy of mine finally found the problem. It turned out that a piece of cardboard from the inside of a cap from a fuel additive bottle had dropped in the fuel tank. Every now and then it would plug up the outlet and would subsequently shut the engine down. After waiting (or moving) the debris would move out of the way and away I went. What a frusturating ordeal but something I can laugh about now.

Do you have dual tanks? If so, have you ever noticed which tank you are on when this problem occurs?

I hope this helps. Best of luck!!!!

RMO,

I just re-read your post. I missed the part about not getting any fire when this happens. Sorry.

I have a single built in tank.
When this happens it is like a key shutoff or safety switch released the motor dies instantly.
Could a bad VRO pump cause this?
I get no alarms. You are correct very frusrating.
