I went to start my boat after approx. two months, and it would turn over like normal, but would not start. With my little knowledge I thought to replace the plugs and wires. Still wouldn't start. I checked the fire from all the coils to the wires and then from the wires to the plugs. Still no fire. Could it be the powerpack, or could be internal? How do I check?

Welcome!!

Its kinda rare to have no fire at all. Might be something simple. Even as simple as the kill switch lanyard off.

Lets try this -- disconnect the large red cannon plug at the motor (main wire harness) and check for spark again. Dont try to start it unless its got water. If it does start with the harness disconnected, you wont be able to shut it off with the key. Youll have to manually flood it. Just check for spark.

Dhadley you are the man of the week. I did what you said and it would not even turn over. So I started unplugging wires and when I unplugged the single wire from the powerpack to the big red plug it started. When I plugged it back in with the key in the on position it shut off. My model # is j88mslete. Now what do I do?
Thank you for your help.
rswise

rswise, you are the man of my week.

For the benefit of future lurkers, like myself a few days back... we were having the same problem as rswise, no spark at any of the plugs. Disconnecting the plug on the yellow/black circuit fixed the problem. Further reading made me realize that the yellow/black circuit is the safety lanyard kill switch circuit. When grounded, it kills fire to the spark plugs. Our outboard doesn't have the safety lanyard, so there's an extra wire to nowhere in the control box. Not knowing what it is, we'd assumed it had broken off of the ring terminal on the ground peg, and reconnected it.

I would check for continuity between the yellow/black circuit and ground.
