Today, while out fishing, my 1992(or so) 40hp Mariner would not go into gear. When placed in forward or reverse, the prop doesn't really turn and engine just goes up in RPMs. Did notice while in drive the prop VERY lightly spins(which is to say it almost doesn't), and it is inconsistent. Anyone have any ideas as to what the problem is?
