I changed my impeller and put the lower housing together and joined the shift linkage, but now sometimes the locking nut for the swivel nut hits the edge of the gear housing when putting it reveres, making it tricky to get shift to reverse sometimes.
I am thinking about filing the edge of the nut that that hits the edge of the gear housing.

I think you need to revisit the way this was re-assembled.----Serial # of this motor ?

Linkage seem to be connected correctly in the way it sits in neutral well, and goes into forward and reverse ok.
I only disconnected it from the gear housing to change the impeller.

It is a 1992 model.-----If it did not interfere before than I suggest checking your work / re-adjust the coupling.-----Make sure it is set-up correctly.----Lower unit parts are big $$$ items.

Maybe I should disconnect the shift linkage again and check the two rods are back to back, no gap, and the turn the swivel nut to connect them.

I don't think there is any other way to put this back together, when I just disconnected the swivel nut on the upper rod from the lower housing rod.
