What type of oil do I use for this its a v4.

Also where do I put the oil and what not? do i mix it in with the gasoline and if so how much oil do I put in? my boat has a 18gallon gas tank.

also how do I loosen up the steering? the steering wheel will turn but it takes some force... will WD-40 do the trick or do I need some other type of lube to put on the motor steering arm itself?

thanks

We will assume this is a new boat to you?

Is the VRO still enabled?

A VRO unit is a Variable Ratio Oiling System mixes the fuel and oil for you. Some guys remove them and pre mix themselves. If it has been removed, and you are pre mixing, it will be at 50:1 TCW3 oil to regular 87 or 89 octane fuel.

A little reading for you.

so how do I tell if I have VRO or not then? also how can I make it so the steering wheel isnt so stiff to turn? will WD 40 sprayed on the arms work?

On the steering problem we need detail of the type of steering you have, cable, hydraulic, etc,

pretty sure its cable steering, it has a cable from the steering wheel to the outboard and the other side of where the cable goes into the outboard is a metal rod

okay i finally found out how to see the picture... so im guessing if I dont have that then premix is the way to go... Also since I just bought this boat would you recommend I do a decarb soon?

Correct. If the VRO unit has been removed or disabled, you will need to pre mix your fuel. A call to the previous owner will verify this.

I would reccomend getting a factory OEM service manual. It will pay for itself a million times over. Check ebay, or www.outboardbooks.com for a factory reprint.

A decarb is a good annual maintainence item. Check the FAQ for instructions. Also, I would look into the condition of the water pump and impeller. Cheap part, but its failure is catastrophic. They should be changed roughly every 3 years. May also want to change the lower unit oil, along with new gaskets on the drain and vent screw. Check the condition of the old oil, making sure it is not milky white, which is a sign of water intrusion. Checking the compression is also a good idea, for your own knowledge, and to use as a benchmark for future testing.
