good day everyone , I just joined

I have assembled the thermostat housing with new stats, valves etc today . I notice the cork seals sitting in the recesses that the 2 stats sit on, seem to stand out quite a bit above the plastic, so when I put the gasket over it, it does not seem to sit flush onto the plastic. .
1.Is that normal for a new cork seal to sit out like that and do I just have to tighten the 3 bolts until the gasket is flush with the surface?
2. Do i use permatex aviation on both sides of the gasket ie onto the plastic housing as well as onto the metal surface of motor side

Yes those corks sit up a bit higher, noticable when the gasket is around them also. When It all squishes together it will be fine.

Right or wrong, I always use permatex #2 lightely on all sides of the housing parts and both sides of gaskets....not alot as you dont want any migrating off and getting into that area

Yes, Permatex aviation form a gasket goes on all sides of the gaskets when assembling.

When you put enough to properly coat the gaskets well but do not over-do it, you should not have to worry about coating the thermostat housing or the midsection surface where it mounts.

That will prevent you from over-doing it near the middle vent hole on the thermostat housing and blocking it, which could cause over-heating issues.
