I had no idea there was jet in the bowl, now I do.... Time for a test run...Did you remove high speed jets from old bowls and install them in the new bowls ?
well that didn't go as well as I thought it would, ran like crap, couldn't get out of the gate without it dying, snorting and sneezing, barely got it back on the trailer, back to they drawing board... UGI had no idea there was jet in the bowl, now I do.... Time for a test run...
it all started with it not wanting to start but ran pretty good once it started up. Found out the plug gap was at 0.45 - 0.40 not the 0.30 so I fixed that problem. Then I noticed the carbs leaking because the old bowls were warped so I bought 6 new ones and replaced them but had no idea about the high speed jet in the bottom of the bowl (thanks racerone) so I fixed that. The new bowls did come with new jets but the diameter of the hole is less than half of the originals, I thought they were a replacement for the jets on the side of the carb.backtrack a bit.... how did all this start suddenly ? any chance fuel is inadequate (contaminated) for some reason ?
any chance the VRO is not working properly, is it getting good pulses from the crankcase to work under load at higher RPMS .
smokes a lot ...oilsmoke ( bad mixing) or water ..vapour ?
vro filter ok ? see service tips....
I know nothing about big engines... but had to askcontinuousWave: Whaler: Reference: VRO Fuel-Oil Mixing

shot in the dark .Just got back from running the motor. The video "Motor 3" is what happens when I begin give it throttle, it just bogs right down like it's being starved. The other two are at idle at the dock. During this test I had the neutral switch disconnected as well as the two temp sensor switches, this changed absolutely nothing, sure does smoke though... I checked the cylinder temps after it ran for a bout 15 minutes, the port side stayed around 100, the strbd stayed around 115 so temp is not an issue... I hope this helps...
the VRO was taken out so I premix 50:1 so no chance of fouling or burning up a cylinder due to no oil... the plugs are burning as they should.shot in the dark .
from memory these motors when the oil pump fails they give a full dose of oil to the motor rather tan 0 oil .
you will not get an oil alarm ..
flooding the motor with oil will cause it to bog down and smoke as you describe.
if this is the cause , you may want to replace the plugs as they can be damaged from burning the excess oil.
the VRO was deleted so I premix 50:1 so no chance of fouling or burning up a cylinder due to no oil... the plugs are burning as they should.
Worm screw hose clamps have no place in a fuel system. The fuel line that comes off the bottom of the VRO is leaking around the flange, I replaced the fuel line and cranked it tight with a SS hose clamp, still leaks, I wonder if it may be sucking air.
Thanks for sharing that. I might have to pick up a few...Worm screw hose clamps have no place in a fuel system.
Use the OEM specified clamps or equivalent.

I kinda like the SS fuel injection clamps, they can be be easily taken off and also make a complete wrap around the hose...Thanks for sharing that. I might have to pick up a few...
thats not it, unfortunately... I think it's in some sort of slow modeHad an almost identical thing happen on my 150 some years ago. In my case the little roller on the throttle cam folower had fell off. The roller and C clip were laying in the lower housing and a 10 minute fix.
I could get up to 5000 but did not feel the need as the tide was low and didn't want to hit an oyster bed at that speed if you know what I mean..Is 4000 RPM all you can get out of this motor ?-----It should run to 5500 RPM.------Did you get 5500 RPM last season ?
