1992 e60tle carb question

Okay I've done some research people say that the low speed needle should be anywhere from 1.5 turns out to 2.25 turns out... I can get it to crank when I cover the carbs and "choke" it but not by itself. No apparent fuel leaks, pump in working order. 1992 evirude 60tlene. I have the foot in the water. Has spark on all cylinders an compression. Just has me kinda down and out. This year motor has 3 carbs with a screw on the left of each for a low speed mix. Thts it everything else is fixed I'm thinking. Thanks

Sounds more like the primer(choke) is not operating...

When I got the motor the primer was removed and plugged. If I choke the carbs with my hands it will fire but not stay

Re: 1992 e60tle carb question

You will need to have the fuel primer solenoid hooked up to each carb in order to start the engine normally from the helm. If you don't have a fuel primer solenoid that works, you'll need to get one and perhaps a tiny, plastic tee or two inorder to plumb the hoses to the carbs. That engine just won't start well unless you can choke it-through the factory fuel primer system. Those engines are difficult to set the idle screws on. Once you get it running, you have to adjust one screw 1/4 turn on one carb and wait 30 seconds for the engine (normalize) to adjust itself to the new setting. See how it runs. You may need to do this numerous times on just one carb, then on to carb 2, etc. This takes a really long time to set, as the idle screws on this 3 cyl are linked via an internal intake manifold passage and whatever adjustment you do on one carb actually adjusts the others at the same time. So, adjust slightly (1/4 turns), wait at least 30 seconds to see the change (if any). Once you optmize one carb, repeat with the others. You may need to go over all 3 carbs a few times. A really tedious effort on a 3- cyl that does not idle well anyway. I've spent hours on my 92 3 cyl and still feel it could idle better. Just off idle it runs pefectly..

Thanks! Ya I've got qutie good at the carb adjusting I spent a whole day at it!! Got it going good!! Ill replace the primer but it cranks fine If I hand choke it before I put it in the water:) I do however have 3 unhooked wires on the fuel oump side two grounds and a tan wire. If I ground the tan wire the alarm goes off constant.

Re: 1992 e60tle carb question

The tan wire is part of the warning horn system-which you found out. Could be from the VRO, or the head temp switch. If either senses a problem, they short to ground and sound the warning horn. The head temp switch will sound a constant horn-different from the VRO warning horn. Is your tan head temp switch hooked up? Are the other two wires black? I don't have my 92 wiring diagram here. I do recall a couple of wires on that side going to the oil tank.
