1992 chaparral with a 4.3 Yamaha engine and outdrive

I don’t know anything about boats and have learned that parts for this are not available to repair. The motor runs and turn on at the turn of the key, the lower unit I was told needs either the throttle cable or the gearshift. Not sure what to do with the boat at this point, any help?

You need to get some manuals for the engine and drive you have and do not activate anything until you have at least a glimmer of what it is or you can damage it further.

I would look for a complete 1992 or newer Mercruiser longtail (complete from prop to pulley) and swap out what you have

Yes, the learning process can be challenging. Yamaha entered the I/O (sterndrive) market briefly and then got out, so parts and repair are non-existent.

As stated . . . I think you'd be best to find a used Mercruiser 4.3/Alpha combination and do a full replacement.
