I went to start my boat and all I got was a whirling noise from my starter, seems that the gear is not driving up to the flywheel but the shaft still spins,I have 12volts to the starter?? Rebuildable?? easy fix?? Thanx.

ok. check your grounds, can you do a voltage drop test? if you have good ground and no voltage drop you may have a set of bad brushes in the starter. they list for around 30.00 bucks or so. also if you have wing nuts on the battery, toss them and install stainless hex nuts that you can put a wrench or socket on this will insure you have a tight connection. have a good one NJ

I would first manually move the armature shaft up to the flywheel a few times. I would then place a drop or two of oil on the armature shaft and repeat the process.

Make sure the battery is fully charged.

Let me know if this works. Worked on mine.

Rex has the nswer. A very easy fix. Once you have the shaft good and clean, use regular motor oil,and oil it well. You will have to do this every year. There is nothing wrong with it. They all just do that.
