1992 115 Evinrude won't start

I went out in the bay the other day and the boat ran out just fine. When it was time to leave it would not start. I smelled gas so I assumed the problem is no spark. I checked the Lanyard switch or kill switch and it tested ok. This boat came without power trim but it was added later. I noticed 2 different statorsfor this motor - 1 for motors without and 1 for motors with power trim. I am not sure if the stator could have gone bad due to overload with the trim. Then again I am not sure what the problem is at all. I do know however that the kill switch is working how it should. Any suggestions?

check compression, spark on all 4 cylinders. before anything.

before you start buying parts and pulling things to bits, do some no cost "non invasive" trouble shooting first, other wise you may end up with a whole new set of problems, as mentioned, check spark, will take minutes and cost nothing, check plugs to see if they are dry or wet, swap complete fuel tank and hose for a portable tank if possible, do a compression test, do the easy things first.
