This could be a stupid question, but would anyone be able to enlighten me as to what the emergency signal light... signals?

Last night I took my 25 2 stroke out for the first time since thanksgiving, and the first time since rebuilding the fuel pump.

My impeller was shredded and the motor was fuel starved and could not make it past idle. She needs some love.

This was the first time I have taken it out at night. I noticed the red indicator light was on the entire time. When I pulled the starter cord the light came on with every rotation of the flywheel. I assumed the light should come on only if there was a problem like overheating or the auto oiler not operating. This brings me to my question: what does it mean?

I have searched yamaha's website, the interwebs, and this forum and have not found any definitive answer. I could not find a copy of the manual. I'd be greatly appreciative if someone could share what this light is meant to warn me about so I can figure out if I have an actual problem or just a ground-out wire. Thanks!

Low oil level in the oil tank ?----Try filling the oil tank and test run.----If the impeller was shredded you may need to do a compression test.----Post the values.

when talking about impellor, the water pump comes to mind, not a fuel pump.
fuel pump should be a diaphragm pump

I would think the owners manual would have that type of info (Lights)

The tank was more than halfway full. I'm thinking I'll drain the tank, clean, refill with good fresh oil, and check again. I'm debating on deleting the oiler system all together. The fact that this light comes on so consistently with the flywheel makes me skeptical of how much information it could really be getting.

The motor should not have gotten hot. It was not run above idle speed due to a fuel starvation issue (I believe it was due to a kinked hose which I will be replacing in the next few days), and in no more than increments of 2-5 minutes as we were trouble shooting on the water. I'm assuming you're suggesting to check the compression to make sure it was not damaged during operation, correct? Or is the impeller shredding a symptom of a bigger issue?

The diaphragm fuel pump was rebuilt in April. I am referring to the water pump. I've been sifting through yamaha's website and crowley's but have been unable to come across a pdf version. Would anyone know where I can get my hands on a copy of the manual? Thanks

My main question is: does anyone definitively know what this indicator light is trying to warn me of? If it's a low oil level or temp gauge then I know it is a faulty indicator, but if it is an indicator for no/low oil pressure or water pressure, then I know I've got a problem on my hands.

This light is on constantly. If the motor is on the light is on. This leads me to believe it is a faulty ground or sensor, unless it is connected to a flow-sensor.

I have no clue as to whether this is a recent problem or if this has been going on for the last year. I have not noticed it until I took it out during the night.

Thank you.

so it does sound like you shredded a water pump impellor, hope you found all of the pieces and they are not blocking cooing passages inside the motor.

Yamaha does not monitor oil and water pressure or flow, just oil level and water/motor temp

as far as manuals go look for the manuals part numbers and do a web search for them or order from your local Yamaha dealer

I believe the imp shredded while using a bad water hose performing repairs. Not enough water getting in I guess. I'll be dropping the LU this week. Hopefully all the little chunks will turn up without issue.

Unfortunately Yammy's website does not have manuals dating back far enough for my model year. The 25 2 strokes stop at 2006. I was hoping to avoid buying a $30+ manual from a sketchy website to learn the function of the indicator light, but I may have to resort to that.

The folks over at Crowley Marine were able to get it answered. Makes sense, as there was no water running through it at the time. Posting this in hopes that it helps someone in the future. Thanks all

It won't. Actually, it may send someone down the rabbit hole. Not all Yams are alike. Yours may be completely different from the next fellows Yam.

The peanut gallery offers an apology. I just noticed the model is a 25MSHP.

Seems that Crowley did not fully address the light.

Amazing what one can find in their owner's manual instead of asking yahoos on the innerweb.

I can only add - don't ride around with the alarm on - paddle to shore and find out what's wrong - otherwise you could burn your motor up !

Many refer to the Yamaha warning system as a "limp" mode. And continue to run a motor with the horn blaring. Hopefully a new or over hauled motor will soon be in their future.
