I have a 1991 Wellcraft Eclipse 253 with a Merc 5.7 engine carbonated engine, this past spring I had a new engine installed. The boat will not plane out and it only gets up to 2500 RPM. I currently have a Solas 17 pitch prop on the boat. I am not sure if the Marina who installed the engine did not install it correctly or I just need a low pitch prop.

welcome aboard

a 5.7 should spin a 17P prop well into the upper 5000 RPM range

you have a motor issue.

look at the stickies for causes of low WOT

do a compression check
verify that your fuel is actually fuel
visually check the flappers
check the anti-siphon valve
make sure that your throttle cable is fully opening the throttle
and everything else that is on the check list.

Has the problem persisted since the work was done on the boat? If so, the people who changed the engine should be sorting out this problem. Is the engine the same as the previous one? If so, the prop should not be an issue.

Scott thank you for your reply. I will begin going down the list to find out what is the problem.
Porscheguy the problem has persisted since the work was done on my boat. The engine is the same as the previous one. The people who did the work on the boat should sort out the problem but they will not return my calls. I really rather not even deal with them they had my boat for over a year and they were not good to work with.
