I have a 1991 2.5 200 mercury that appears to have been converted from efi to carberated .. its been running fine.. two problems started today and I wonder if they are related, or what the cause could be:
1. Today the engine seemed very sluggish coming out of the hole. It acted like it was bogging down and lacked power.. it also seemed to be smoking a bit more than usual. Gas/oil mix is fresh and ran ok yesterday.
2. When I got home I wanted to have a look at the plugs.. raised trim to remove motor toter and the trim would not lower. Only a clicking sound coming from the lower solenoid, and it was much hotter than the top one.
I am thinking that the solenoid may be bad, but could that also have anything to do with problem 1? It appears that the solenoids are wired in to the power heads ..obviously I'm not a boat mechanic, but its ironic that both problems surfaced at the same time.
Thank you
