Do you know anything about Thompson boats? This is a very clean boat. I'm going to sea trial it Friday. I don't know much about Thompson boats so any input is much appreciated.
The Daytona is a party type right? I bought a Thompsom Fisherman 240 new in '93. She had a VERY high gunnel and was powered by a Chev 305 block Merc. I ran charters on her for 3 years on Lake Erie. She handled 6'ers like a small chop. Most Thompson boats had a wood floor I ordered with fiberglass. All had wood stringers "fully encapsulated" but a great chance there is a problem there now. The transom was also wood core. A FEW had hull cracks that were noticed soon after launch. All known were gelcoat stress and the factory repaired all I heard of. My Thompson was well taken care of and used more in 3 years than most would in 20 years. When the for sale sign went on her she was sold in a few hours for the amount I paid for her. Look for stress cracks along the hull especially around the strakes. Remember, these boats have wood in them. Thompson boats were not entry level and certainly not a premium boat but more mid-tier. Few boats made today in the 24 - 26' range have gunnels or stern as high as my Thompson. The company was bought by an individual in late '93. I spoke with him and sent my boat back to the factory over the winter for some custom work. I got it back in the spring of '94 and that was the last I heard from or about the company.
Brand means diddly on a 20 year old boat. It's all about current condition. As john mentioned above, there is plenty of wood in them, check very carefully for soft spots/rot. What powerplant?
thanks guys, the boat is in amazing shape, very clean. im going to sea trial it today and will definitely check for soft spots/rot. ill report with the feedback tonight.
