That battery monitor sounds like a good idea. I have a voltmeter but I don't have anything that shows the actual current draw on the system. Might have to add one of those myself. Glad you kept the cool old speedometer, always liked the old school style gauges best. What's the other box bottom right in the 2nd photo for?

that old school speedometer wont be hooked up until i get a new hose and pitot tube. next on the list is to wire tach, trim and power from the accessories cable. (gonna have to cut the plug off it)

well i have decided to bite the bullet , my new helm will be here the end of this month. the gauges that will not be used will be removed and my fishfinder put in place and maybe my battery monitor. so without further ado, i give you my new Helm!. minus the wheel and cable.

Water pressure gauge is more important than water temp. If you have water pressure..... Then the water is flowing.

Depends on where the Transducer/Gauge Pipe, is located. Just like the Tel-Tale, might not mean the water is getting to where it needs to be.

OK...you sparked my interest, in all my boating years, never saw a water pressure gage for my outboard. Where do they go and how difficult to hook up ? It does make sense, now that I think about it, no need to watch the telltale!! Thanks in advance for your input.....

Well the Gauge goes in the Dash
The location on the Water Jacket for the Tube, or in some cases, Transducer, vaires. On older Mercury Inlines, there was a threaded Hole for the Fitting on the Water Jacket Cover between the Spark Plugs, and plastic Tube was fed up to the Dash and fitted to the Gauge. I put one on my inline in 84, shorty after I bought it.
In Hindsight, I wish they had offered a Horn, that would sound if Pressure dropped too far, as you will pay attention to a loud Noise quicker than remembering to be always watching the Gauges. You do have see what you are running over.

The old Thermostatless Merc used a Gauge that read up to about 10psi, the motors that had Stats, used a Gauge that read higher

If installing a water psi gauge, bite the bullet, spend the $$$ and get one that reads from 0-15 psi.

one that reads from 0-30 or 0-60 psi will be worthless.

My I6 engine reads 8-10 at anything above 2500 rpm when impeller is new.
Reads only a couple psi at idle.

Reading slowly falls off as impeller ages.
