What Guage's are you looking for?
gonna need fuel, water, volt, oil, speed and tach. thats if my engine has all this for wiring? i have a pdf manual for my engine. also the wiring codes so i will have to trace them and find out. right now i have speed and tach, but i dont think those work. and my pito tube will not go all the way down.... also broke. my engine is 1991 mercury 115hp 2 stroke serial number 0D080267

Explain the type of oil gauge you want.-----Is there not an oil level gauge on the cowling ?

2-strokes do not need oil pressure gauge

You should add a water pressure gauge

Fix the pitot tube

Fuel gauge will depend on type of fuel tank. If you have portable tanks, there is a gauge on the tank

iBoats sells gauges

You need to search on outboard gauges. Faria and Seastar are some of the brands. You can buy sets of them.

I would recommend a tachometer, water pressure gauge, fuel level gauge. and speedometer. A water temp gauge is usually unnecessary on an outboard, because of it's open cooling system loop.

I agree with Chris on the selection of gauges...

then inboards shouldnt need them either ( water temp)

Water pressure gauge is more important than water temp. If you have water pressure..... Then the water is flowing.

thank you for the explanation..... now onto the next question. does it matter what gauges i get pertaing to the engine? or are they all the same. ie mercury gauges , evinrude, ect. they are not generic to any engines?

You want to make sure the gauges will work with your motor. Speedos, water pressure and fuel gauges are universal. The tachometer is really the only gauge that is engine specific, and recent gauges are also universal, but it is wise to check.

For stand-alone (non NMEA or CAN) gauges

The tach works on pulses from the switch box. Most marine tachs are universal with a selector switch

Speedometer is either pitot tube or GPS

Water pressure works off water pressure

Volts work off volts

Trim, water temp, oil pressure all require specific sender resistance ranges

well im putting off the guages for now. still have the original mph and tach. made a new helm for it. have to add the tach but its almost finished. wiring has been redone. had to make new lights for the anchor, running lights. rewired it all. front to back. ill get more shots of it after i reinstall the helm and fuse block. for now here is the helm as it sits right now. i will be using the same thing as my flooring to cover the wood. 1st pic is new helm, 2nd old, 3rd both side by side.

Nice work on the new helm, looks like it's really coming together. I like the look of the plotter being recessed into it like that. What's the display under the Lowrance? Standalone depth sounder?

well heres an update. so far no gauges are hooked up. i still have to find a new/old tach to install. and run new wires to bilge , hookup tilt, run wires for battery monitor . also still have to get a sensor for the temp gauge. and maybe put in oil gauge as well? . the two toggles in black box are for cabin and anchor light. then tie rap it all and tuck them away.

That battery monitor sounds like a good idea. I have a voltmeter but I don't have anything that shows the actual current draw on the system. Might have to add one of those myself. Glad you kept the cool old speedometer, always liked the old school style gauges best. What's the other box bottom right in the 2nd photo for?
