What type of restoration?

Floor, transom, interior, gelcoat?

Or are you digging to see how much is rotten in that wood wrapped mystery of yours?

Re: 1991 bayliner capri 2050 4.3 V6 restoration

well here is the whole story...... this is my first boat i paid $3500 for it. I didn't grow up around boats so i have little knowledge mostly from reading forums like this. I had a chance to take it out couple of times. Then shoot upper gear on stern drive. My original intent was to rebuild this boat from the time i bought it. So i thought if i was going to rebuild stern drive i may as well rebuild whole boat. Then i found this forum saw that a lot of people did this project and helped each other every step of the way. So i was hoping that i could get some help and suggestions on how i should do this right the first time :D. So any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am 24 years old and would love to rebuild this boat and take pride in it. So the answer to your question is complete tear down and building it back up.

Take a close visual check of all places out of normal view, inside transom/bilge area, under seats, compartments looking for any outward signs of problems. Check the transom shield bolts for signs of problems (soft areas or bolts starting to sink into the transom). Also, If your working on the sterndrive, probably a good idea to check the ujoints and bearings.

Document and photograph everything. Lots of people here have been through the same repairs you might take on, but it becomes hard for them to help without photos posted of the problem area.

Welcome to the iboats dry dock

Start reading thru the threads in Don's How to list

Look for either of FriscoBoater's rehab threads, & read thru both... His youtube channel & iboats posted videos were a great help pulling what you're reading together & have it make more sense...

Oops' hull extension thread is in Don's list, and although a HUGE thread, there's an index on page 1 so you can find what you're looking for and read for just that...

WoodOnGlass has some great links in his signature line for paint work, rebuilding stringers, decks & transoms....

While you are gathering tools, protective gear & materials, and starting the demo, read as much as you can. Take as many pix as you can, and as many measurements & notes as you can.

You can open a free photobucket acct & post larger pix that are embedded in your posts, and don't have to be opened to view the pix. Your boat:
attachment.php

Copy & paste the IMC
Code:
from under the pix once you upload them. The raw code will look something like this when you paste it:

My goal for this boat is to look something like this, i know it's not going to be exact copy but i hope to get it as close as possible to this.

Wow, well alrighty then

Gotta have goals I reckon.

That & a nice pile of cash & plenty of time. Start the plan for the built-in swim platform early, that will require some figuring & fabrication, then the support structure. The add-on tower may require some behind the fiberglass or deck reinforcements that will need to be added before the deck goes back on.

Looking forward to seeing it progress. Despite the bad rep they get, I like a lot of the mid 80's to late 90's Bayliners.
